On Monday 9th January 2017, Bower Park welcomed Sarah, an actress from Shakespeare’s Globe. Sarah worked with multiple groups of our Year 9 pupils, leading workshops linked to ‘The Taming of the Shrew’.
The English department has, for the second year in a row, secured 100 free tickets for students to see a live performance of one of the bard’s famous plays at the Globe. Pupils engaged in various drama activities designed to introduce them to Shakespearean language, themes in the play and how stage performances take place. This experience is invaluable, as it sets them up to positively embrace the topic of Shakespeare, a key component in their future English GCSE curriculum.
Our students thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity, and did the school proud! Watch out for an update when they go to see the play in March.
