It is Official – Bower Park is a Good School!

Bower Park Academy is on the up. The Ofsted inspection in March 2018 determined the school was Good in all categories. To be judged good after being placed into Special Measures fifteen months ago is a significant achievement that only a few schools nationally have accomplished.

In the latest report, inspectors acknowledge the speed at which Bower Park has improved. “Leaders, including governors, have taken swift action to deal with the school’s weaknesses. A rigorous focus on teaching and learning has had a strong impact on improving standards.”

During the inspection, inspectors found that “Pupils’ achievements have improved significantly since the last inspection” and that “Pupils are well prepared for the next stage of their education.

Teaching is obviously at the core of what we do and the inspectors judged that “Teaching is typically strong.”

The inspectors also reported that the school “has created a positive climate for learning’ and the staff’s “commitment to improvement is impressive.”

Other findings emphasised that “Pupils’ behaviour is good. They are respectful of others, tolerant of those who have different beliefs and lifestyles, polite and courteous”, and that they are “keen to learn and proud of their school. These factors contribute well to pupils’ learning.”

The inspectors concluded the report by stating, “The improvements in outcomes mean that pupils leave school better prepared for the future than at the time of the last inspection. Last year, all pupils moved into education, employment or training when they left school at 16.

Mr McLaughlin, Principal at the Academy said, “I am so proud of my staff, pupils and governors for this fantastic achievement. The speed at which the school has improved is both remarkable and very satisfying. The academy is now providing the high-quality education that our pupils deserve. I want to thank the staff and pupils for how hard they have worked to achieve this good judgement. However, we will not stop here – our next goal is to secure outstanding outcomes for our students and an Outstanding judgement from Ofsted.”

Mr London, CEO of the Empower Learning Academy Trust (the Trust that oversees Bower Park) said, “We are delighted that the community now have a local school that they can be proud of and that our Trust has been able to support the Academy’s rapid improvement.   Huge credit and thanks must go to Mr McLaughlin, his leadership team, the Governors, the staff, the pupils and parents for all their support. We join them in celebrating this fantastic achievement.”
