On Wednesday, 1st May, Bower Park Academy hosted the finals of the Havering Girls’ 7-a-side football competition. Two of our three teams reached the finals in the Year 7 and Under-14 age categories.
There were two tournaments held, one in November and the other in March, to determine the finalists. Year 7 breezed through to come top of their group, only conceding four goals in fourteen games. They showed great determination throughout every match, and the display of team cohesion was outstanding. In the final, they came up against a tough Hall Mead side, but their strength and character couldn’t be beaten, and they won 2-0, with both goals coming from Lexie Wilson.
The Under-14s had an extremely tough run in the tournaments, facing some well-drilled schools. They finished runners-up in the group stages and faced Emerson Park in the final. After going 1-0 down early on, the team’s resilience kicked in, and a goal from Gracie Hickman tied the game. The match went to penalties, but, unfortunately, Bower Park lost 3-2. Credit should be given to Isabella Hughes, who made two huge saves. Thank you to Ms Brown who has given her time to coach the girls to their success this year.
