Students at Bower Park are celebrating today after receiving their GCSE results this morning. The school has seen an 8% increase in students achieving 5 A*-C GCSEs.
Students have risen to the challenge of the new more challenging GCSEs and, despite a decrease nationally in the proportion of students obtaining a pass and above in English (down 5.2%) and Mathematics (down 2.3%), Bower Park has seen increases across the core in the percentage of students achieving passes – a 10% increase in two Sciences, 4% increase in English and 13% increase in Mathematics!
In addition to this outstanding achievement, 94% of students achieved a grade A*-C in French and 96% achieved a grade A*-C in Drama (31% securing an A grade).
There were many individual achievements to celebrate. Ella Wotton achieved 2 A*, 3 A, 7s in English Literature and English Language and a 6 in Mathematics, and Abby Champness secured the new elite grade 9 in both English Language and English Literature. These were just 2 of the highlights of many outstanding achievements.
Principal Stuart Mclaughlin said “I am delighted by the improvements in our GCSE results, especially in the core academic subjects. These improvements are the result of hard work and dedication from students, staff, parents and carers. Bower Park looks forward to building on these improvements in the forthcoming academic year.”
