BPA Enters Royal Horticultural Society Competition

BPA Enters Royal Horticultural Society Competition

On Wednesday, 12th December, a team of students from Bower Park, accompanied by Ms Davis and Mr Braithwaite, visited RHS Hyde Hall to present their ideas for school garden designs, as part of the Green Plan It Challenge.

Students had to set up their stand, comprising their models and research, and present it to a panel of four assessors, who listened to their presentation and asked many questions about the plants they used, the soil, the hard landscaping materials they wanted to use, etc.  The students really were fantastic.

They were competing against ten other teams from eight Essex schools.  Unfortunately, Bower did not win, but we were highly commended by the President of the Landscape Institute, Adam White.  The teams were :

  1. The Wildlife Warriors, consisting of Jess Archer (year 9), April Smith, Amy Brazier, Isabelle Jelinski and Peaches Johnson (year 8).
  2. SONA Social, (whose name was made by taking the initial from each of their first names), consisting of Sarah Concannon, Natalie Nightingale, Alexander Mackenzie (year 8) and Oakley Williams (year 9).

Special thanks to Ms Davis, who has organised and coordinated the whole project.  Thank you to Mr Braithwaite for all his help, not only on the day but throughout. Thanks also to Mr Erisen, who saved the day by driving the teams to the venue, and Alison Findlay, the RHS Community Outreach Advisor. Finally, thank you to our amazing mentor Kathy Taylor, who visited the school several times to help the teams plan their gardens.
