Year 7 is an important year that is full of excitement and nervousness. Starting secondary school is a significant milestone in a child’s life. It marks a passage into adolescence and brings about several significant changes. They will go from being the oldest in school to being the youngest, having to find their way around a large new school with different teachers for different subjects.
At Bower Park Academy we understand the crucial role that parents have to play in the education of their children. The continuing success of Bower Park is based on this positive partnership between parents and school. We understand that you may have questions regarding the process and the academic progress of your children and would encourage you to contact your child’s form tutor or me if you wish to speak to us.
At Bower Park Academy, pupil achievement is at the heart of all we do. We encourage all our students to do their best, to achieve the best examination results they can and to develop their personal and social skills to the full.
We view each person as special and unique, and recognize and respond to their gifts, their needs and their aspirations. We seek to show love and care for all individuals, celebrating achievement and providing support when difficulties are experienced.
Pupils require an orderly environment to focus on their studies effectively. We insist on the highest standards of behaviour and self-discipline. We expect all pupils to work hard, to show respect and courtesy for others and to take a pride in their appearance.
We also place emphasis on developing the skills and values that will enable our students to become thinking, informed and confident adults who will be able to meet the challenges of the 21st Century.
Alongside our high academic aspirations, we believe in enabling our students to develop into well-rounded and independent learners, encouraging them to take on leadership roles across the school and participate in our superb range of extracurricular activities, clubs and societies. These are designed to build on their existing talents and support them in taking the risk to explore new interests.
We hope that our Year 7 students will find this year enriching and inspiring, and that it will help them to develop into successful and motivated young adults.
I look forward to working alongside you in order to support and ensure the achievement of your children.

On Friday 17th March, Year 7 students watched a performance by the Arc theatre company called ‘Lucky Me’. The performance focused on topics such as body image, healthy eating and exercise, through to feelings, emotions, language and lifestyles.
We expect our students to be ready for learning every lesson.
Students must, on a daily basis, have equipment that includes a pen, pencil, purple pen, rubber, ruler, calculator, planner and reading book.
Students with 100% attendance will be rewarded in assembly.
